Yard and Leaf Compost is now available at $20 per yard.

** Food Scrap Compost is available at $40 per yard **

Last fall, Lincoln County officials teamed up with Maine DEP to organize an organic composting pilot program to collect food scraps in an effort to reduce the county's waste.

With just over 20 participants the program was a great success, bringing in over 2,000 pounds of compostable materials in 5 months. Collections have averaged about 450 pounds per month to date!

With the success of the pilot program, the Lincoln County Composting Committee expanded the program and launch a county-wide composting initiative on May 1st that is now open to all Lincoln County residents and businesses.

All you have to do is:

** Bring your food scraps to Lincoln County Recycling - Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 3:45 PM

** Additional drop-off location at the Wiscasset Transfer Station during their normal business hours

Buckets are dumped into a collection barrel. Eventually the barrel is dumped into the compost pile(s) located in the paved area to the rear of the Recycling facility.  Compost is turned several times per week and allowed to "mature".
